WISE RAVEN REVIEWS

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go. ”

THE CHECKLIST MANIFESTO |
ATUL GWANDE

If you don’t already, you’ve got to use checklists! Whilst often perceived as dull, checklists actually protect against elementary errors and will almost certainly save you a headache in the long run. I reflect on this book daily, a game changer!

FLUKE | BRIAN KLAAS

A stand out story is the tale of the man who survived being lost at sea only because a kid happened to lose their football into the ocean a few hours before. The football became the man’s floatation device saving his life. Talk about flukey.

THE GOOD LIFE | R WALDINGER
M SCHULZ

A great reminder of the power of positive social connection. It features the heart warming and affirming findings of the eighty-four year long Harvard Study on happiness. Don’t skip this one!

LIFE IS IN THE TRANSITIONS | BRUCE FEILER

We are primed to expect our lives will follow a predictable path but the reality is that more often than not they don’t. A reassuring book offering solid practical strategies for dealing with (inevitable) change.

MOONWALKING WITH EINSTEIN
| JOSHUA FOER

In 2005 journalist Joshua Foer covered the US Memory Championship for Slate magazine. Little did he know, he would be returning one year later to be crowned champion himself. If you can’t remember your mobile phone digits maybe give this one a try.

MANIFESTO | DALE VINCE

Can you believe that the founder of the Ecotricity green energy empire started his journey with one windmill which he self-built on a mate’s spare piece of land? A true hero’s journey, the guy started with zero before he made his millions. Inspirational!

HUMAN BEING | GRAHAM LEE

Are we healthier, happier, and more able than our ancestors? Human Being by Graham Lee is an entertaining exploration of this question touching upon our abilities of navigation, movement, and resilience to solitude (..or lack thereof).

YOU DON’T NEED A SMARTPHONE |
AUGUST LAMM

A real wake up call for me and hopefully anyone else spending a bit too much time on their phone. Smartphones are useful devices but August Lamm argues we have gone too far in the name of efficiency. Our knowledge of navigation replaced by Google Maps. Our focus on task and sleep schedules disrupted by endless notifications. And on reflection I'm not sure I've ever felt a warm and fuzzy feeling inside spending more time on social media. Needless to say I will be buying a dumb phone shortly.
